About wine bottle names

A standard bottle holds 750 ml. Larger formats are named, mostly after biblical kings: a magnum is two bottles, a jeroboam four, a methuselah eight, a salmanazar twelve, a balthazar sixteen and a nebuchadnezzar twenty (15 L).

Big bottles age more slowly because there is less air per glass of wine, which is why collectors like magnums.
