Three things worth knowing
-
Centimeters ÷ 2.5
Divide your hand’s circumference in cm by 2.54: 20 cm makes a size 8 (7.9), 23 cm a size 9.
-
A tailor’s inch
Glovemakers measured with the same inch tape as tailors, so the size became the girth in inches. The 2003 EN 420 standard fixed it for safety gloves, and EN ISO 21420 kept it in 2020.
-
Measuring the length
Hand length matters for fingers, but the size is the girth. A long, slim hand can still be a 7.

About glove sizes
A glove size is simply your hand’s circumference in inches, measured around the palm below the knuckles: a 20.3 cm (8 in) hand is a size 8. The European standard for work gloves, EN ISO 21420, uses the same numbers, so US and EU sizes agree.
Letter sizes take one number each: S is 7, M is 8, L is 9, XL is 10.
