convertimate Magnetomotive force

Magnetomotive force converter

Convert the magnetic push of a coil between ampere-turns and gilberts.

125.7Gb

That's 1.67× as strong as a small relay coil, while a solenoid valve is 5× stronger. That is 1 A flowing through 100 turns of wire, or 10 A through a tenth as many.

What it means

How strong is that coil?

Reference values are rough, typical figures. Real coils vary widely with their design.

About magnetomotive force

Magnetomotive force is what drives magnetic flux round a circuit, the way voltage drives current. For a coil it is simply current × number of turns.

Its SI unit is the ampere, usually written ampere-turn to keep the turns in mind. The gilbert is the older CGS unit.
