About Convertimate
Convertimate converts currencies and every physical unit, and then shows you what the result means. A number like “340 m/s” is easy to calculate and hard to picture. So every converter here comes with a small animation: your speed races a cheetah and a bullet train, your weight goes on a weighbridge, your temperature climbs a roadside thermometer.
How the numbers are calculated
Unit conversions use the exact definitions from the International System of Units (SI) and international agreements, for example 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly and 1 mile = 1,609.344 m exactly. Results are rounded for display; the tables on each page show six significant figures. Everything runs in your browser, so the converters also work on slow connections.
Currency rates come from the European Central Bank (via Frankfurter) and from the open-source currency-api for currencies the ECB doesn't cover. The page always shows the date the rates were published. Rates are for information only. Banks and transfer services apply their own rates and fees.
Why the road signs?
Road signs are the most tested information design in the world: readable at a glance, in any light, by anyone. The typeface is Overpass, an open-source font inspired by the Highway Gothic lettering on US road signs.
