Ether unit converter
Convert amounts and gas prices between wei, gwei and ether, the units Ethereum wallets and block explorers use.
That's about the same as the fee for a simple transfer at 20 gwei.
What it means
How much ether is that?
Units only, not money. A plain transfer uses 21,000 gas; its fee is that times the gas price in gwei.

Three things worth knowing
-
Nine and eighteen
1 ETH = 10⁹ gwei = 10¹⁸ wei. Divide gwei by a billion for ether.
-
Cypherpunk names
The units honour cryptography pioneers: Wei Dai, Nick Szabo and Hal Finney.
-
Fee is not gas price
The gas price (in gwei) is per unit of gas. The fee is that times the gas used: 21,000 for a transfer, far more for a contract.

About ether units
Ether is divisible to 18 decimal places; the smallest unit is the wei, after Wei Dai. Gas prices are quoted in gwei (a billion wei), so a fee of “20 gwei” means 20 billionths of an ether per unit of gas.
A simple transfer burns 21,000 gas: at 20 gwei that is 420,000 gwei, or 0.00042 ETH.
